An office today can be easily defined as a retention model for your millennial employees. Far behind us are the days when offices were basic spaces bordering cluttered. Today offices are swanky, fun and comfortable spaces where overworking hustlers spend most part of their lives. Statistics reveal that a whopping 76% of employment seekers lock in on a job offer from a creative office space in comparison to a dull and boring one. As office culture is a number determining a factor for employee satisfaction, it comes as no surprise that the ambience makes all the difference too. Today office spaces have multiple seatings options such as bean bags, quirky armchairs, footrests, swings and much more. Recreational areas are decked with lounging sofas in uplifting colours, game consoles, poker tables, foosball tables, low hung industrial lighting and many such hipster arrangements that make break time a real experience.
Just a few weeks ago we closed a rather quirky office interiors project and that got us thinking! With such immense changes, we realised it is important to understand the redefinition models and get a grip on it before it is too late.
Motivating & Inspiring
Colours play an important role in workspaces today. Gone are the days of boring grey, white and black. Now it is about colours like yellow, red, blue and greens that make for an inspiration and motivation obsessed office. You can even create the illusion of importance and swankiness by using muted pastels and steel greys among other bold colours of magenta, turquoise and emerald green as well. Whatever your style, there is a fresh coat of paint for it. Offices now throw colour not just on walls but also furniture. Bright chairs, tables and decor pieces are in now and are known to improve retention and act as mood lifters.
Mindful & Sensible
One of the best changes in the past few years is our sense of natural belonging. With time, we have grown to rediscover nature and reinvented sustainability like never before. Homes, hospitals, offices and even the hospitality space is bringing the greens indoor to allow for a refreshing decor update. If not in the form of real foliage, at least naturally tropical prints are a big winner.
Comfortable and Cosy
Rest assured, you can’t fool a millennial with just colour and fluff. They love their comfort and luxury a tad bit too much. Comfortable and plush seating spaces are a number one requirement. Perfect table heights, ample space, shelving units that are sensible and spacious are only a few things that act as motivators for the youth of today.
Everything tends to look very dull and bland in sub-par lighting. Lighting is a crucial element in office design. The jarring tube light white light has been out for while now! Low hung ochre lighting is more in the present and creates a happier mood. The key is to remember that it can’t be blinding bright but it definitely shouldn’t be dark, dull and gloomy.
Offices today are labelled great, fun and innovative for their recreational spaces largely. Many offices now have areas marked off for games, lounging and snacking. Plush sofas, restaurant lighting and all types of games and activities to refresh the employees instantly. Not only is this a stress buster but also a great way to get the team to build a stronger bond.
