The design season of 2018 is a great place to begin hunting for trends and decor looks that are a hit this year. This is primarily also what moulds the trends for the year to come including the colour scheme. We are beginning to migrate from clean contemporaries to a rather relaxed and laid back feel and look. The season is all about fun and quirky prints and hues weaved into contemporary pieces and designs.
Here’s a list of the trends that have made it to the top 5 of our trend analysis.
Cultural and Tribal
A lot of designs are beginning to shift focus to global and cultural diversities. African tribal prints, native American designs, Indian foil work and colours etc., are making heads turn this season. These designs are hand-woven, printed, knitted or embroidered and act as bold additions to any interior design space bringing about a sophisticated eclectic quality.
Botanicals and Foliage
Gone are overtly floral days, make way for the latest trend of botanicals that are an ode to a retro trend but with a more urban twist. We are also beginning to celebrate the darker and richer hues of natural origin such as olives, mustard, greens and browns.
It is truly an introspective phase and an era of conservation and repair. The design world is paying heed to the planet by celebrating the naturally occurring hues and textures. Bold colours are making way for earthy tones of refreshing greens, soothing mud, brick and rust, ochre yellows and beiges. Earthy hues also bring about a sense of calm and groundedness to a design and cuts out the ostentation without necessarily compromising on quality or the luxury factor.
Shades of Blue for Tranquility
We seem to be an era obsessed with making a haven out of interior spaces. It’s indeed the most remarkable evolution that the design industry has undergone. And to honour this requirement designers are beginning to pepper spaces with hues of blue to restore tranquility.
Fun and Quirky
Despite all the elements of tranquility and humility, the millennial heart desires a little fun and quirk to simply spice up things. Who is to say no to a tad bit of fun when it looks this good?
