The 55th edition of the Salone del Mobile was pure heaven! New furniture products were launched, the latest industry innovations were presented, and history was made. We got to soak in the magic, but for those who were unable to attend, we have a surprise. As part of a special collaboration, renowned interior designer João Botelho from Casa Botelho was happy to share his experiences with Treniq from an insider’s point of view.
Before founding Casa Botelho, João Botelho enjoyed a 22 year career in global luxury retail where he headed teams in Harvey Nichols, Nicole Farhi and Jasper Conran, Donna Karan (New York) etc.
Having worked with iconic homeware designers and travelled around the globe, he has experienced style at its best, learned exquisite architectures and gained interiors’ knowhow. This has inspired him to explore different sides of his creative personality through the redesign of a space. Insightful and informative, here’s presenting our interview with João Botelho.
Describe your experience as soon as you entered Salone del Mobile.
The experience was exciting and overwhelming because thousands of people were trying to get into the exhibition at the same time. The sun was shining beautifully over the buildings and crowd, which was the perfect touch for the beginning! Everyone seemed to be excited about the day ahead and in high spirits. The setup was organised and quickly enough I was in and already at Classic furniture stalls.
Which are the brands you visited at iSaloni?
I visited hundreds and hundreds of brands! I visited Stalls 1 to 9 as well as Kitchen and Bathrooms. Some of the brands I visited were Leicht, 1920R, Twils, Philipps Selva, Red, Sancal, Ethimo, Menu, Red, Snadero, Toncelli, and String.
Which brands did you most look forward to visiting and did they live up to your expectations?
I looked forward to seeing so many brands so it was hard to create a list but here is my top 15 brands – Boffi, Maxalto, Smeg, Laminam, Rubelli, Poliform, Lavazza, Porcelanosa, Idea Group, Leicht, Antonio, Lupi, Stocco, Volla, Falper.
Everyone did an incredible job with their super luxe showrooms and an incredible attention to detail.
Which was your most favourite stall visit?
Kitchen and Bathrooms without a doubt. I find Kitchens and Bathrooms really sexy, so exploring the stalls and many new brands were such a treat. I love looking at new finishes, architectural details, versatility of the ranges, colours, and positioning of each brand.
What was your favourite experience about the entire trade show?
Just being there was such a thrilling experience. The entire fare was an incredible experience and I was able to register so much in one day. With so many brands, it felt like I was living my online experience of sourcing products from Treniq. Numerous brands, product exhibitions, all at my fingertips.
Was there a particular event by the organisers that you liked a lot?
1920R was AMAZING! They had an outstanding wooden furniture range and art pieces. Their setup was ergonomic, where you could walk around a large area and view the items in a gallery way. They also had the longest timber tables I have ever seen. A very clever and unique approach, where the collection felt young, cool and very NYC.
Do you look forward to going back next year?
Absolutely YES. However, I will definitely need more days to enjoy the stalls and Milan itself. I would also love to collaborate with Treniq again, for a more comprehensive and intuitive experience.
What tips would you suggest other interior designers to take into consideration when attending Salone del Mobile or any other trade show in the future?
- Take 3 days minimum to look at the Stalls and also visit the streets of Milan / whichever city the trade show is held in.
- Plan ahead your day with goals. There is so much to see and digest so you need plenty of time.
- Bring a backpack with you to carry brochures and plenty of business cards.
- Simply enjoy yourself, soak in the experience, and continue connecting with these brands on Treniq. It is worth it!
