INDEX, the Middle East’s biggest annual interior design exhibition, is gearing-up for its strongest floor of live features and participating designers yet…and a second show of the year just six months down the line!
Announced today, INDEX will follow-up this month’s annual flagship event with a second design showcase in September, allowing exhibitors and visitors alike to enjoy INDEX alongside The Hotel Show Dubai.
The two separate INDEX shows will be dedicated to offering creative inspiration and the best of international interiors solutions, with both running alongside WORKSPACE and SURFACE Design Middle East.
Event director Samantha Kane-Macdonald said: “The UAE is home to perhaps the most exhilarating hospitality market on the planet right now, with new figures showing that the wider Middle East will eclipse Europe for the first time this year in regards to the number of new hotel rooms opening in 2018. For interior designers and architects, this is a hugely significant portion of business. On that balance, it feels only right for us to host INDEX – the region’s biggest interior design event – beside The Hotel Show.
“September’s INDEX will cater more so to manufacturers, but will still be a must-visit for architects, interior designers, project managers and buyers. By hosting two shows in a single calendar year, we will bring more brands and suppliers than ever before to the region for 2018, and that makes us hugely excited.
“This month’s INDEX is all about Design for Expression: personality illustrated through interiors. While we’ve reduced the show’s physical size to offer a balanced spread across our now two events, March’s INDEX will still welcome more than 600 exhibitors and host several brilliantly engaging features, which together will provide all the products and knowledge needed to incorporate individuality into any space.”
INDEX gets underway on March 26, with the four-day festival of design promising a hugely diverse and creative catalogue of furniture, furnishing and décor suppliers, a conference schedule featuring the pinnacle of local and international design minds, and bespoke live demonstrations and experiences brought to Dubai exclusively for the show.
Included amongst those will be the first ever Ventura Dubai; a pool of more than 40 up-and-coming and established European designers, labels and studios, chosen specifically by Dutch design agents Organisation in Design for their debut Middle Eastern Ventura Project. Dubai follows in the footsteps of Milan, London, Berlin and New York in being chosen to host one of the globally-renowned design gatherings.
The show will also introduce a new section of the floor, Made in UAE, which will connect a wide collection of as-yet undiscovered craftspeople – glassblowers, upholsterers, furniture makers et al – with the region’s leading architecture and design minds.
INDEX will once again run alongside WORKSPACE, the MENA region’s premium office fit-out exhibition. SURFACE Design Middle East – which replaces Middle East Covering – will join the two shows, offering a one-stop shop for design solutions for all floors, walls and ceilings.
Covering topics that touch on each of the exhibitions, four days of OFIS-sponsored Design Talks series will welcome many of the biggest names in architecture and design from across the Middle East to discuss and debate current industry trends and topics. Acclaimed designer and British television personality Jo Hamilton returns to take part for the second year running.
Discussing the Design for Expression theme, Samantha Kane-Macdonald said: “Clients and end users have more creative input than they have ever had when dealing with interior designers, product designers and contractors, no matter what the scale of the project.
“With that, the pendulum of control has swung back to the people. The design mantra is more and more about incorporating the traits of the individual: their beliefs, their experiences, their ambitions. Never before have interiors, furniture and décor been considered such a direct reflection of those who own the space.
“Allowing scope for personal self-expression is already becoming more important when thinking about an interior space. For 2018, INDEX will critique the way we express our individuality through the products we source for our interiors, be that at work or at home.
“Our fresh approaches for 2018 will make our March show the most all-encompassing INDEX we’ve ever had; a design event that truly caters to the needs of every single person working in the industry, at a time of substantial growth for the region. Through everything we incorporate and introduce to INDEX, we aim to build a creative platform that both inspires and connects people. Our innovations for 2018 will provide just that.”
